Over the past few centuries
trees have been advancing through art,
stepping out of the background
and
via an ever-growing number of painters
occupying centre-canvas.

The Arborealists are a diverse group of contemporary artists
formed just a few years ago, who take inspiration from trees.

David Rolt, born over 100 years ago,
was an English society portrait painter
who painted people for a living - and painted trees for love.
A loner, a forerunner, a proto-Arborealist.
