John Bellany’s brilliant natural skill as a draughtsman is vividly displayed in this lively, large format portrait.

The drawing, which is signed and dated 1981, was catalogue item no. 84 in the exhibition of Bellany’s work from 1964 - 1986 that was held at the Scottish National Gallery of Modern Art in Edinburgh in 1986, and later the same year at the Serpentine Gallery in London.
