Shah, Bina
About the artist
Bina Shah observes the impact that humans have on the environment and the traces they leave behind.
She experiments with different materials and techniques, using cold wax painting techniques, printmaking, ceramics and often mixing materials and methods.
The creation of each work involves a process of repeated layering and scraping away, building and deconstructing, etching and abrasion, creating a kind of palimpsest in which the original mark-making can still be seen beneath media that have been superimposed later on.
Bina has provided background information, which can be found in the notes for each work, about what inspired her to create Flaggy Shore and Pathways, the two series of her work featured here.
